Intense Match Ends with Thrilling Victory for Karlsruher SC in Ulm

Karlsruher SC secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against SSV Ulm 1846 in the 2nd division, thanks to a last-minute goal from Marcel Franke in stoppage time. Both teams struggled to create scoring opportunities throughout the match, which ended with KSC maintaining strong defensive focus after conceding several goals in prior games. Ulm’s Dennis Chessa lamented the loss, highlighting their performance. KSC now sits second in the standings, while Ulm finds themselves in 15th place.

In a dramatic finish on the tenth matchday of the 2nd division, Karlsruher SC secured a victory with a last-gasp goal against SSV Ulm 1846.

The match concluded with a 1-0 win for Karlsruher SC, following a goal by Marcel Franke in the dying moments—specifically, in the fourth minute of stoppage time. The game was characterized by its intensity and a lack of scoring chances, with KSC focusing heavily on defense after conceding seven goals in their last two matches—a 4-4 draw against 1. FC Köln and a 3-3 draw against Darmstadt 98. In the end, the late goal proved to be a fortunate outcome for the visiting team.

Franke, who netted the crucial goal, shared his thoughts on the match. “It was a tough game, and it’s not every day I get to score, so it felt incredible,” he remarked in an interview. “Ulm has a strong team, and they defend effectively. It was challenging, but we’re grateful for the three points.”

Dennis Chessa Reflects on the Loss

Conversely, Dennis Chessa from Ulm expressed disappointment after the match. “This loss stings, especially since we played well against an unbeaten KSC. We need to be more clinical in front of goal; if we had scored, the outcome could have been different. To concede such a late goal feels frustrating,” he said.

SSV Ulm Misses Key Players

Ulm was missing their captain, Johannes Reichert, due to a meniscus injury, prompting Thomas Geyer to step into central defense. Additionally, Max Brandt served a suspension, with Philipp Maier starting in his place. On the other side, KSC coach Christian Eichner maintained the same lineup that competed against Darmstadt.

The match started with KSC controlling possession and generating the first notable chances. Dzenis Burnic’s attempt from 14 meters narrowly missed the target, followed by a close call from Lasse Günther. Meanwhile, Ulm’s strategy initially focused on fortifying their defense.

After around 20 minutes, Ulm began to create some offensive pressure. Lennart Stoll struck the outside of the net, and Maurice Krattenmacher was denied by KSC keeper Max Weiß following a solo run.

Offensive Struggles for Both Teams

The first half lacked significant action, with Burnic failing to convert another opportunity against Ulm’s Niclas Thiede. As a result, both teams went into halftime without a score.

Missed Opportunities for Ulm

The second half saw Ulm take a more aggressive approach. Stoll almost found the back of the net but was thwarted by a deflection off Weiß. A corner followed that saw Stoll’s delivery go awry, as Maier failed to capitalize on a close-range chance.

KSC struggled to create chances at this point, and the match seemed destined for a draw until Franke’s timely intervention. He headed in from a corner, sealing the game with his last-minute effort.

With this win, KSC now holds second place with 19 points from nine matches and will face Hertha BSC at home next Saturday. In contrast, Ulm finds themselves in 15th place with seven points and will battle Darmstadt next Sunday.
