(France 2)

Victims of floods, houses have become almost uninhabitable in areas classified as at risk. This has direct consequences on insurance, as journalist Axel de Tarlé explains on the 20 Heures set.

Natural disasters that affect homes have consequences on the prices of insurance premiums. According to journalist Axel de Tarlé, “They will increase in 2025 by 10 to 12% on the national average. The areas most at risk, near a river or near the sea, are already much more expensive”. For example, a 100 m² house in Bouches-du-Rhône “will cost twice as much as in the Hautes-Alpes”he continues.

Insurers can even refuse a subscription. “Insurers have published a map of France of termination rates for 2050. (…) In Côtes-d’Armor, the termination rate will be 7%, because houses will be uninsurable or at prohibitive prices”explains Axel de Tarlé. Several municipalities will eventually find themselves with unsaleable houses. “We are talking about houses on the Atlantic coast, on the front line facing the ocean, which will no longer be worth anything”he concludes.
