Israeli gunfire that injured five UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon has sparked global outrage. Forty countries urge to protect this peace force. The Jewish state and Hezbollah refuse to heed calls for a ceasefire.

On the morning of Sunday, October 13, the Lebanese Red Cross released photos showing two ambulances with broken windows. Several rescue workers were injured in a bombing in a village near the border with Israel. The day before, the UN announced that a fifth peacekeeper had been hit during exchanges of fire between the Israeli army and Hezbollah men.

To avoid a new incident, the Jewish state asked the peacekeepers to leave the scene, which the UN refused. For several days, Israel has been accused by several countries of having targeted UN military buildings. A strike reportedly injured two people, including a peacekeeper. Yoav Gallant, Minister of Defense of Israel, assured that“Israel will continue to take necessary measures to protect peacekeeping forces stationed in southern Lebanon”. Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated the request to the UN to evacuate the peacekeepers who are near the border.
