“Female DNA”, Louise Oligny | Duty

It all starts with a man having his throat cut during a show produced by a women’s defense association. The investigation is entrusted to Captain Gignac, who soon clashes with Diane Choinière, an ascendant nosy photographer. Quebecois Louise Oligny, who has lived in France since 1989, directed it in Chronic anger. She brings her back in female DNAwhere Diane, now in a relationship with a police officer, considers herself qualified to assist the investigator. After all, she was present the night of the murder, she knows the victim, her background and the suspects. Once again, the novelist uses a humorous style to deal with serious subjects – here, among other social issues, domestic violence. And she pulls no punches. Based on three narrative angles, female DNA unfolds in two tones stretched like a red thread. It would have been easy to trip over it. Louise Oligny (and Diane Choinière) avoids the trap.
