The Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire indicated that the rise in electricity prices will not exceed 4% in 2022. Bad news for EDF, which is already going through a bad patch.
To limit the rise in energy prices, EDF must sell off its electricity to its competitors. The company is already obliged to sell them part of its production at low cost, but the government wants to increase this volume by 20%. Cost of the measure for the firm: approximately 8 billion euros. A sum that will weigh heavily on his finances.
Other bad news for the group: new technical problems have been detected in some plants. In all, ten reactors out of the 56 in the park are shut down. EDF had to revise downwards its nuclear production forecast for 2022. A situation that could happen again in the future, according to the CGT. To make matters worse: a new delay was announced on Wednesday January 13 for the commissioning of the Flamanville EPR (Manche). The additional cost is estimated at 300 million euros.
