What to do following these repeated waves of floods? What are the medium-term consequences for residents? Residents are now wondering about the value of their property. Several elected officials fear that their municipalities will subsequently become ghost towns due to the succession of ecological and human disasters.

Pascal Parra finished the work ten days ago and had just welcomed his new tenant. But the floods destroyed everything in a few minutes. “Everything is leaky, everything needs to be changed,” he laments regarding the brand new equipment. “It’s 12,000 euros invested for one week”he adds. It will take at least a month and a half to restore everything. The retiree had bought the apartment to supplement his income but faced with the increase in floods, he has questions. “The further we go in time, the less value this good will have” he explains.

Marine Sevel has made her decision. She is going to sell her house, bought 20 years ago, for 175,000 euros. It has suffered four floods, including three since the start of the year. Discouragement got the better of his attachment to his property. “There, I don’t think it has any value”she regrets. “I would rather lose money than ruin my health because it’s tiring”she adds. A few meters away, the swollen Grand Morin River flooded the city center on Thursday October 10. Limiting construction on the banks of the river, launching water retention works, this is now the work ahead for the public authorities.
