On Wednesday October 9, several important films were released on French screens, such as the biopics of war photographer Lee Miller (with Kate Winslet) and Donald Trump (The Apprentice), or the animated film The wild robot from Dreamworks studio. However, it is a feature film little known to the general public which took the lead at the box office: Terrify 3. This horror film, which features a killer clown, is prohibited for under 18s.
The third part of the franchise Terrifyby director Damien Leone, ended Wednesday with an exceptional figure of 45,000 admissions in a single day of operation. The performance is all the more remarkable as the feature film was present on only 128 screens in France, a consequence of its ban on under 18s by the classification commission. And Terrifier 3 was still at the top of the box office on Thursday October 11, with 35,000 more spectators, or 80,000 in total in two days, according to the X Comscore account.
No film has been banned for minors since Saw 3the third opus of the famous horror saga, in 2006. This decision was taken because of the particularly bloody murders committed by Art, the film’s killer clown. But this high-profile decision rather had an attractive effect on spectators over 18 years old. For comparison, Terrify 2released in early 2023, attracted 70,000 people in total.
But this third episode did not convince all the spectators. On social networks, several of them wrote scathing comments about the film. “I didn’t understand anything about the project”says one spectator, while another describes the film “burst”. On Allociné, press and spectator reviews still receive an honorable 3.1 out of 5. Those who want to try the experience will have to bring an identity document, checks being carried out to enter the theaters.
