Hurricane Milton, in Florida (United States), has already caused serious damage in the state. On the coasts, the wind blows at more than 200 km/h, while residents take refuge in gymnasiums set up inland.

In Fort Myers, Florida, the streets are deserted and the risk of flooding is very high. In just a few hours, Thursday, October 10, Hurricane Milton advanced several dozen kilometers in the American state. Near the coast, extreme winds reach 205 km/h. The damage is already significant. The roof of a stadium, for example, is largely destroyed.

In images filmed in the south of the state, the water rose more than a meter in the space of 30 minutes. More than a million and a half homes were without electricity on Thursday morning, October 10. A figure likely to change quickly. Families who have abandoned their homes are taking refuge in gymnasiums closer to the land, converted into makeshift cafeterias. Authorities say it is now too dangerous to evacuate and urge residents still there to shelter in their homes. Among them, two French people: “It was complicated to leave, because the roads are crowded”explains one of them.
