Senators win 3-1 against the Panthers
Linus Ullmark made his debut with the Ottawa Senators as he made 30 saves in a 3-1 victory over the Florida Panthers on Thursday night.
With the Senators leading 2-1 in the third period, Ullmark made key saves against Anton Lundell, Mackie Samoskevich and Carter Verhaeghe.
The Ottawa team took a 2-0 lead in the first period thanks to a power play goal from Tim Stützle and a fine individual effort from Shane Pinto, who beat Sergei Bobrovsky with a laser in the top corner.
Stützle added a second empty-net goal to end the Stanley Cup champions’ hopes.
On the sequence, Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov pushed hard against the boards while trying to prevent Stützle from scoring.
Visibly in pain, Barkov needed about a minute before getting up and he needed the help of his teammates Evan Rodrigues and Uvis Balinskis to retreat to the locker room.
“He’ll be looked at here tonight, and probably tomorrow as well,” Panthers head coach Paul Maurice said after the game.
Gustav Forsling scored the Panthers’ only goal, on assists from Sam Bennett and Matthew Tkachuk.
Bobrovsky did well in the loss, stopping 28 of 30 shots aimed at him.
The Senators will now head to Montreal, where they will face the Canadiens on Saturday night, before returning to Ottawa to host the Los Angeles Kings on Monday.
