Independent Ukrainian journalist Victoria Roshchyna died in prison in Russia, Reporters Without Borders announced on Thursday October 10. She is “died in captivity in Russia on September 19, according to the letter from the Russian Defense Ministry received by her family on October 10”specifies the association.
The journalist had been missing since August 3, 2023, while traveling to the occupied territories of Ukraine, via Russia. “The Russian authorities have never provided any information on his detention, despite incessant requests from his family, the Ukrainian authorities and RSF. They must shed light on all the circumstances of his detention and his death,” reacts Jeanne Cavelier, head of the RSF Eastern Europe and Central Asia office.
According to Reporters Without Borders’ count, Victoria Roshchyna is the 13th journalist to die “because of the Russian invasion of February 24, 2022”. 19 journalists are still detained by Russia for their work.
