The cracked foundations of our education system

Minister Bernard Drainville considers that the foundations of our school system are sound, a position he reiterated last Friday during a two-hour questioning in the National Assembly.

However, our students, particularly the most vulnerable, fall into the trap of dropping out of school in considerably higher numbers than elsewhere and our teaching staff, if exhaustion has not already led them to leave their profession, are looking at the outside light. filter through the windows of the foundation.

With such findings, if it were our house, or the building in which we live, would there not be reason to call on foundation experts?

While educational inequalities are widening in the province, how can the minister and his government remain stuck to the old orientations of the defunct Action
democracy of Quebec? Don’t they feel uneasy about young people left behind by our three-tier school system?

Is it really too much to ask for general states in education or to demand that we look at an innovative and unifying proposal like the Plan for a common school network of School Together, a plan developed for the benefit of all our students?

Remember that, during last week’s discussions, the minister unfortunately limited himself to emphasizing the “cosmetic” actions taken by his government, without ever responding to the heart of the issues facing our school system.

I would therefore like to remind him that equal opportunities in education are the cornerstone of any society worthy of the name and that we must act now to ensure the well-being and success of all our children, with our eyes turned towards the future of our nation!
