The heavy rains which fell on the capital on Wednesday evening caused the pipes of the Palais Bourbon to burst, flooding the basements of the National Assembly. In total, 60 mm of rainwater fell in Paris.
The National Assembly invaded by water. On Wednesday October 9, deputies had to evacuate rooms in the basement of the Palais Bourbon, transformed into paddling pools. “A city pipe exploded due to the influx of water”explains Brigitte Klinkert, question to the National Assembly. The water would then be “poured into the pipes of the National Assembly”who buckled under the pressure.
Parisian transport was not spared from this heavy rain. At Saint-Lazare station (Paris), water seeped everywhere, streaming down the stairs and down the walls. For security reasons, certain access points have been closed to travelers. During the nights the heavy rains stopped, but not their consequences. In total, 60 mm of precipitation fell in the capital, unheard of in more than 100 years.
