Since the attack launched on October 1 by Iran against Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu has promised to do “pay the price” to Iran. Can the State of Israel respond alone a week after suffering the Iranian ballistic missile attack? And above all, is it capable of striking, without American help, the nuclear installations of the Islamic Republic?
The Islamic Republic of Iran has buried a large part of its nuclear facilities underground. And to destroy them, you need armor-piercing bombs. The most efficient is American, it weighs 13 tonnes and can explode at a depth of 60 meters.
For the moment, the United States has never delivered any to Israel but the Jewish state has other, smaller ones.“Israel has the capacity to strike and not only with American means,” according to Kobi Michael, a researcher at the National Security Institute at Tel Aviv University. “Israel has prepared surprises that could be more effective and destructive than American means allow,” he said.
However, the researcher warns: “The problem is that these decisions must be made taking two things into consideration: the first is the Iranian response and its regional consequences; and the second is the ability of the Iranians to quickly rebuild their infrastructure . Because they have the knowledge and the equipment to do so.
The issue is not recent; Israel has been preparing to strike Iranian nuclear facilities for more than 20 years. What is new, however, is the window of opportunity. Israel has the support of the United States to respond, and could therefore seize the opportunity to strike hard and slow down the development of Iran’s nuclear program.
