The first feature film by Ariane Louis-Seize as well as Simple like Sylvainby Monia Chokri, and 1995by Ricardo Trogi, stand out among the finalists of the 26e Quebec Cinema Gala.
“Noting the nominations in the different categories as well as the list of finalists for the Michel-Côté Prize [prix du public]we realize that this is an extraordinary year for Quebec cinema that we are preparing to celebrate at the Gala Artisans and the Gala Québec Cinéma. Quebec cinema is doing well: it is rich and diverse, and it is meeting more and more audiences,” declared the general director of Québec Cinéma, Dominique Dugas, Tuesday morning, at a press conference at Studio TD, before presenting Phil Roy and Mona from Grenoble, who will respectively be at the helm of the 26e Gala Québec Cinema and 9e Artisans Gala.
“For me, it’s not an evening or a comedy gala,” was quick to say Phil Roy, a film-loving comedian who succeeds Jay Du Temple. “What we want to celebrate and highlight is the beauty and excellence of cinema, but also to reach out to people who have not been to movie theaters. To go with the vehicle of humor, which is accessible and which casts a wide net, and the choice of Mona seems obvious to me: we want to do something entertaining. The goal is not to come out of the two galas with sore cheeks, but to say to yourself that it went by so quickly and that it was so much fun. It will sometimes be funny, sometimes thoughtful, sometimes touching because that’s what cinema is. »

Hosts Phil Roy and Mona from Grenoble
Like Phil Roy, Mona de Grenoble, who will have the delicate task of highlighting the shadowy artisans, wants to make spectators want to see the nominated films. “I am known for my slightly sharper humor, but I want to make an Artisans Gala funny and caring at the same time, where we feel that it is not a lesser gala because the two galas are equally important. one than the other. Nominated in 22 categories, including best film, best direction, best screenplay, best first film as well as best female and male performance for Sara Montpetit and Félix-Antoine Bénard, Humanist vampire seeking consenting suicideby Ariane Louis-Seize, easily dominates the race for Iris.

Follows with 14 nominations, including best film, best screenplay, best direction as well as best female and male performance for Magalie Lépine-Blondeau and Pierre-Yves Cardinal, Simple like Sylvainby Monia Chokri. Having beaten the post Oppenheimerby Christopher Nolan, for the César for best foreign film in France, Monia Chokri’s feature film is also among the finalists for the Michel-Côté Prize and that of the film with the most success outside Quebec.
With nearly three million at the box office and 11 nominations, 1995by Ricardo Trogi, also stands out in the awards, notably in the categories of best film, best direction, best screenplay and the Michel-Côté Prize. Faithful to the position, Jean-Carl Boucher and Sandrine Bisson appear in the categories best male performance in a leading role and best female performance in a supporting role.
Richelieuby Pier-Philippe Chevigny, and Solo, by Sophie Dupuis, close behind 1995 with each 10 nominations, including best film. Ariane Castellanos (Richelieu) stands out in the categories of best cast of roles, best female performance in a leading role and Revelation of the Year. His partner Richelieu Marc-André Grondin competes for the Iris for best male performance in a supporting role and best male performance in a leading role for The successorby Xavier Legrand. Also included in this category is Théodore Pellerin for Solo.
For his part, Ruby Charles-Olivier Michaud, garnered eight nominations, including best film and Revelation of the Year for Chloé Djandji, whileAbabouinéby André Forcier, collected seven, including best film, best screenplay and best female performance in a supporting role for Pascale Montpetit. As for Tell me why these things are so beautifulby Lyne Charlebois, and Our sisters-in-law, by René Richard Cyr, they are face to face with each six nominations. Biggest success of 2023 with nearly three and a half million at the box office, the second is competing in particular for the Michel-Côté Prize.
Awarded to Rémy Girard last year, the Iris Hommage prize will be revealed in November.
The Gala Artisans will be presented on December 4 at Grandé Studios in Montreal and the Gala Québec Cinéma on Sunday, December 8 live on Noovo and Noovo.ca.
From now until December 8, moviegoers are invited to vote for the Michel-Côté Prize (audience prize), which will be revealed at the Gala Québec Cinéma.
