Politics is once again at the heart of the Blues’ news. Two days before the match against Israel, relocated to Budapest (Hungary) due to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the defender of the French team, Ibrahima Konaté, was questioned at a press conference, Tuesday October 8, about the context of the meeting. Without tongue in cheek, he called for world peace in the name of the French team and expressed concern about the fate of Palestinian and Lebanese civilians.
“We are here to play football, we don’t look at who we are playing against, but what is happening does not leave us indifferent. What we see is abominable, I don’t even have the words to describe the horror of what we see”he began. If he said he had “chance to be lucid” to stay in his “world”the Blues defender is worried about the youngest. “We hear adults on TV sets crying about what is happening, but they are adults. Imagine the children who open their phones and come across videos of people being decapitated, imagine the psychological impact that can have”.
“I also worry about the people who are suffering around the world, he continued. Of course there were things that led to war. Fighting terrorism is one thing, but the civilians who have nothing to do with it, who are killed en masse, I have no words, it hurts me. What I want, and I think this is the case for all the members of the French team, I will speak on behalf of everyone: all we want is peace in the world “.
Ibrahima Konaté hopes to help “through our behavior, our words, the kindness we can have towards each other, to calm the hearts of the people around us, the people who have hatred born through images. If only we could just remember that, that life is short and we have to be happy, I think we would already live in a better world.”.
