Gaza has been under bombs for a year now. A third of the buildings in the Palestinian enclave have been destroyed. Has the Israeli government’s objective been achieved?
Before October 7, 2023, Hamas had 30,000 fighters, according to the Israeli army, and more than 15,000 rockets. What about after a year of merciless war? First observation: the Islamist movement hardly launches projectiles at the Hebrew State anymore. In the images of the Israeli army, we can see a seizure of rockets. Experts estimate that there are only around a hundred left. There would remain several thousand active fighters, but isolated from each other. Hamas has blended into the population. Its fighters have exchanged their war clothes for civilian clothes.
As for the leaders of the movement, Israel demands the elimination of dozens of Hamas officials, including the head of the armed wing in Gaza, and the head of the movement’s political office. The leader remains, elusive for the moment. He is apparently still alive, but his room for maneuver is very limited.
