Is Cristiano Ronaldo about to break a new record? Already the most capped player in history, top scorer in the Champions League, top scorer in the Portuguese selection, he could also become the most followed man on YouTube.
His channel, launched at the end of August, reached one million subscribers in just an hour. A record! A month and a half later, it has 60 million. HAS At this rate, he could overtake the American Mr Beast, record holder with 315 million subscribers. A new challenge for the Portuguese who, at almost 40 years old, is thinking about his post-career.
On his YouTube channel, Cristiano Ronaldo offers somewhat classic videos, like the one where he describes each of his 14 goals at the Euro. “I give this one 10 because it was my first goal with Portugal”he explains in front of images of Portugal-Greece in 2004.
But the Portuguese understood that to attract subscribers, it was necessary to vary the content. He therefore also offers long confessional interviews, in which he notably recounts his departure from his parents at the age of 11. Also on the menu, intimate moments, like these Five things you didn’t know about Cristiano and Georgina, his wife.
While he now plays in Saudi Arabia and will turn 40 in February, Cristiano Ronaldo is developing a valuable tool there as the end of his career approaches. “When football stops, he may want to continue to have an activity”analyzes Brice Beignon, founder of the Ambition agency, specializing in the image of athletes. “Athletes are in high demand by brands so it gives him one more medium in which to communicate. And therefore potentially partnerships and monetization with brands on his YouTube channel.”
With an annual salary of 200 million euros, Ronaldo remains one of the highest paid athletes in the world.
