Today marks the first anniversary of the conflict stemming from Hamas’s attacks in Israel and its response to bombings in the Gaza Strip. Around the world, thousands of pro-Palestinian activists will march in the streets to mark the event. Several Jewish communities will also hold commemoration vigils.
In Montreal, a vigil organized by a Jewish association outside the McGill campus is planned around 12:30 p.m. Simultaneously, a march led by pro-Palestinian student activists will leave Concordia University to go to McGill’s Roddick gate. The two groups could cross paths. In the evening, a pro-Palestinian rally is planned at Place des Arts.
Some universities have decided to close their doors or reduce their activities for the day in anticipation of the excesses that could occur.
