While communications applications such as WhatsApp and other social networks are increasingly popular for communicating, could SMS, which is no longer very young, disappear?

Popularized in the early 2000s, SMS has changed the way we communicate and write. Directly competing with instant messaging applications, texting is losing momentum. To try to resist, SMS, “Short Message Service”, becomes RCS, “Rich Communication Service”. The RCS goes through the internet network, while the SMS goes through the operators’ telephone network.

While SMS required a maximum of 160 characters, messages are no longer limited in characters with RCS. It is also possible to chat in a group, send photos or videos, leave voice messages or share your location. It will no longer be necessary to download an additional application to take advantage of these features.

As for operators, only SFR currently offers RCS message technology. However, according to one expert, they are much more secure than SMS.
