Strike in Corsica: the island completely blocked for 24 hours

In Corsica, 24 hours of strike without any notice completely blocked the island. Planes grounded, boats docked, with hundreds of passengers caught off guard. “When we arrived, we were told that the strike had started and that we would not board”deplores a young woman. At the origin of this conflict between communities and the State, a fear: the change in the status of Corsican ports and airports planned for January 1st.
If the sector is now public, the unions and local elected officials want it to remain that way and are opposed to possible privatization. They obtained a written commitment from the government on the afternoon of Friday October 4. “It is now clear, official, affirmed by the government and set in stone. The ports and airports of Corsica will remain under the control of the institutions of Corsica”welcomed Gilles Simeoni, president of the Executive Council of Corsica. As a result, the movement was lifted on Friday evening. A return to normal is hoped for by Monday at the latest.
