“He doesn’t give us time to think”: the victim of a convicted romantic scammer testifies

Caroline believed she had found love, but the young woman was far from suspecting that the man who lied to her had been convicted on multiple occasions of seducing women, exploiting them and disappearing from their lives. She agreed to testify for France Télévisions.

Caroline recognizes it today, the story was too good to be true. Last March, a stranger approached her in a cafe and offered to help her. The man “invited himself into the conversation” that she then had with her brother, “explaining that he had companies in tech”says the young woman. The stranger claims to be a wealthy businessman. In a few days, he floods her with text messages.

“He writes all the time, he doesn’t give us time to think”assures Caroline. But one of his best friends will discover inconsistencies behind the profile put forward by this “perfect boyfriend”. While doing research, he discovers that his CV is full of lies. “I was sure he was a scammer but still not aware of the fact that he was someone dangerous”he explains. The crook is actually called Aurélien Aouali, and he has been convicted multiple times. He seduces women to live off them, steal from them and disappear. Following a complaint from one of his victims in Amsterdam, the scammer received a two-year prison sentence.
