Discontent is rising again among farmers. To respond to this anger, the Prime Minister is at their side in Puy-de-Dôme (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes). At the same time, bluetongue is spreading.

Michel Barnier knows agricultural issues well. For two years, he was Minister of Agriculture under the Fillon government. Bluetongue is the concern of the moment in the field of agriculture, because this disease decimates herds. “It’s a disease that spreads very quickly. In a few hours, the animals are very quickly weakened. And even if we do our best to treat them, there was a 50% loss of livestock”testifies a farmer whose herd was victim of this fever.

Despite a tense budgetary context, the Prime Minister announced emergency measures such as free vaccination to deal with this disease. “When there are crises like the one the sheep and beef industry is going through, we have to face it”declared Michel Barnier during his visit to farmers in Puy-de-Dôme (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes). However, constrained by a tight budget, Michel Barnier does not want to promise mountains and wonders.
