Struggling harder in the league (2 wins, one draw, three defeats), Olympique Lyonnais got off to a good start to their European campaign in the Europa League. After a successful victory against Olympiakos (2-0), Les Gones had fun against Glasgow Rangers on Thursday, October 3, and won 4-1 at Ibrox Stadium. Two successes which allow them to be in second place in the league phase, just behind Lazio Rome, winner of Nice earlier in the evening.

The Lyonnais only shook for a few minutes at the start of the game. If the Rangers multiplied the chances in the first moments of the match and put Lucas Perri into action, it was the Gones who shook the nets first. After a series of dribbles from Rayan Cherki in the Scottish area, Malick Fofana opened the scoring (10th). But if the OL attackers were very energetic, their teammates were more feverish at the back and Glasgow equalized quickly, thanks to Tom Lawrence, after a poorly controlled header from Corentin Tolisso towards his goalkeeper (14th).

A slightly crazy start to the match which did not calm down since Malick Fofana, again, served Alexandre Lacazette to regain the advantage (19th). The Lyon captain even added to the score just before the break with a powerful shot into the top corner for the double (45th+1). Dominant, technically better, Pierre Sage’s men completed their success in the second half with a fourth and final goal from Malick Fofana, after good work from Rayan Cherki (55th). They could even have driven home the point further with several chances at the end of the match, but they finally won 4-1, enough to calmly await the Turks of Besiktas who will present themselves at Parc OL for the third day of the Europa League, on the 24th. october.
