While a seven-page report from the Palestinian Football Federation (PFA) denounced last March “at least 92 footballers killed” in Gaza, and its president Jibril Rajoub has been urging Fifa for several months to “stay on the right side of history”the FIFA Council did not decide on Thursday October 3. The body does not suspend the Israeli Federation but is launching two investigations which will allow it to make its determination, according to a press release released Thursday.

An investigation will focus on the accusation of “discrimination” carried by the Palestinian football federation and the second on “the participation in Israeli competitions of Israeli football teams allegedly based in Palestinian territory”specifies the press release. The Israeli national team must face the French team on Thursday October 10 in a Nations League match relocated to Budapest (Hungary), then on November 14 at the Stade de France.

In recent years, since 2022, Fifa and UEFA have suspended Russian teams, national teams and clubs, from their competitions in solidarity with Ukraine.
