Gérald Darmanin, Ensemble pour la République (EPR) deputy for the North, was the guest of “8h30 franceinfo”, Thursday October 3, 2024. Budget proposal from Michel Barnier, extension of the detention period for people under OQTF… He answered questions from Salhia Brakhlia and Jérôme Chapuis.
“I will not vote for the budget” which is “unacceptable”
“For the moment, the budget as announced seems unacceptable to me”believes Gérald Darmanin. “I will not vote for a tax increase”he warns, while the Prime Minister plans to recover 20 billion euros by temporarily taxing large companies and the wealthiest.
“We all agree to reduce the public accounts. But where I do not agree with the Prime Minister is the budgetary trajectory”explains Gérald Darmanin, namely the objective of reducing the deficit to 5% of GDP in 2025, and 3% in 2029. “What is important is to fight for employment, with purchasing power, not to have a tax ideology”tackles the former Minister of Public Accounts from 2017 to 2020.
Extension of the retention period: “European law allows it”
Gérald Darmanin says to himself “favorable” to Bruno Retailleau’s proposal to extend the detention period to 210 days, extending it to sexual crimes, as is already the case for terrorists.
“European law allows it”says the former Minister of the Interior. “France is not going through with the possibility of detaining people who can be expelled from the national territory”says Gérald Darmanin. However, the former Minister of the Interior believes more “questionable” generalization for “all people who have an OQTF”as Bruno Retailleau wishes.
