In Ukraine, on the eastern front, the kyiv army is finding it increasingly difficult to repel Russian attacks. Soldiers continue to lack weapons and ammunition while the enemy uses more drones.
Hidden in the forest, Ukrainian gunners target Russian positions. On the front line to the east, in the Donetsk region, the enemy is only around ten kilometers away. Ukrainian soldiers are equipped with tanks delivered by the West and above all with the largest howitzer used on the battlefield, a very precise Soviet model. The last six weeks have been particularly trying for the soldiers. Ukrainian units lack the means to repel the increasingly intense Russian assaults.
The peace plan presented by Volodymyr Zelensky last week in New York (United States) did not convince the soldiers, who do not trust the Russians. For other soldiers, the war is probably over: seriously injured people, evacuated by ambulance to calmer areas. Many wounded soldiers signed up only a few months ago to defend their country.
