The dockers’ strike affects the United States, but it could also have repercussions in France. Dockers stopped work on Tuesday October 1 in 14 major ports in the east of the country. They are demanding a 77% increase in their salary over six years. Their strike could disrupt international maritime transport and revive inflation of certain products.
From New York to Texas, via Baltimore and Georgia, dockworkers have been on strike at port entrances since October 1st. The image has not been seen in the United States for nearly 50 years. The main union called on its 85,000 members to stop work to make themselves heard: “We won’t move until we get what we deserve.”declares a dockworker.
The strikers accuse the large carriers of having reaped record profits during the Covid era, without benefiting the employees. They are demanding a 77% increase over six years and also denounce the progressive automation of their activities: “Employers favor automation supposedly for safety reasons.
