A family assistant indicted for rape of a minor and imprisoned on the outskirts of Nantes

A 32-year-old family assistant, from the Loire-Atlantique Child Welfare Department, was indicted for rape of a minor with acts of torture and barbarity, France Bleu Loire Océan reported Monday, September 30. The man was arrested on September 23 after a vacation abroad. He is in pre-trial detention.

The victim is a four-year-old girl, severely disabled and placed with this man since December 2023 on the outskirts of Nantes. A trained caregiver, he had obtained approval from the Department during the year 2023, his criminal record was then clean. The man is also the father of a four-year-old child, in shared custody.

These are videos spotted by Europol which brought the matter to light. At the beginning of September, Dutch police contacted their counterparts in France after finding images of a man speaking French in the company of this four-year-old child. The file is entrusted to OFMIN, the Minors’ Office created last year by the Ministry of the Interior to fight, in particular, against online child crime.

The man partially recognizes the facts and admits to pedophilic tendencies “for a while”according to the Nantes public prosecutor at a press conference. The investigation continues to determine if there are other victims. The Department of Loire-Atlantique reacts and “expresses dismay” facing “extremely serious facts”. In a press release, the community affirms that “the recruitment of this family assistant in 2023 was subject to a double criminal record check. The approval procedure, recruitment and regular monitoring of this professional did not reveal any warning signs.”
