Three Grenoble students, infected with meningitis, have been hospitalized since September 16 in Grenoble (Isère), reported Monday September 30, France Bleu Isère. These three people, victims of an invasive meningococcal infection (meningitis) were hospitalized between September 16 and 20, specifies the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Health Agency (ARS). Their state of health “is now reassuring”, specifies the ARS. No new cases have been reported since September 20.

The people identified as having been in contact with the three students, their relatives and their classmates, received preventive antibiotic treatment. The ARS Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and the Grenoble student health service indicate whether they will organize a vaccination campaign in the coming weeks: “The students concerned will be informed directly as soon as the practical arrangements are finalized.”

The ARS recalls the symptoms which make it possible to detect the disease, such as “poorly tolerated high fever”, severe headaches, often accompanied by vomiting, “and/or one or more rapidly appearing red or purplish spots.”

“The sick person may also have disturbances of consciousness, a pale or even gray facial color, diarrhea in addition to fever and vomiting, intolerance to light or noise, stiffness of the neck, significant aches, great fatigue, significant drowsiness, eye paralysis or even convulsions”, explains the Regional Health Agency. The agency invites you to call “immediately” on the 15th in case of symptoms.
