Blue Jays | Disappointing season ends with 3-1 loss to Marlins

(Toronto) Otto Lopez hit a one-run double and the Toronto Blue Jays’ season ended with a 3-1 loss to the Miami Marlins on Sunday.

The match took place in front of 31,688 fans.

They would have liked to see Vladimir Guerrero get a hit and get to 200 this season, but that didn’t happen.

Batting first, Guerrero was struck out once and grounded once, in addition to drawing two walks.

The three-game series sweep improved the Marlins’ lead to 62-100.

This is Miami’s only successful road sweep in 2024.

Toronto concluded at 74-88; this year, the offense has rarely looked very good and the bullpen has consistently been a weakness.

The Blue Jays remained in last place in their division as of June 19.

“We definitely want it to be different,” outfielder George Springer said. We had higher expectations. There is a lot of talent in this locker room. »

Ryan Weathers (5-6) limited the Jays to one run and three hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Anthony Bender scored the save, taking care of the final four outs of the game.

After the game, the Marlins said they were turning the page on manager Skip Schumaker, who led the club for the past two years.

Schumaker was the National Manager of the Year in 2023.

His record at the helm of the Marlins was 146-178.

The only manager in post for more than four years with Miami was Don Mattingly, from 2016 to 2022.
