A second Frenchman died in Lebanon, after Israeli bombings in recent days, franceinfo learned on Sunday, September 29, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is a man over 60 years old. “We will give more details later”added the ministry. The first French victim was an 87-year-old woman. She died on Monday after a “strong explosion” in a village in southern Lebanon, according to the Quai d’Orsay.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, arrived in Beirut on Sunday evening for a 24-hour visit, while the Israeli army assured the same day that it had carried out around 120 additional strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

The head of French diplomacy announced the sending of humanitarian equipment to the site. Two advanced medical posts, capable of treating 1,000 seriously injured people, will be transported. A second delivery should arrive in the coming weeks.

“Lebanon is a friendly country of France, already so weakened, dragged into a war that it did not choose”declared Jean-Noël Barrot. “France stands alongside Lebanon in the hardest times”added the minister. He must speak on Sunday evening with the French ambassador to Lebanon to talk about the fate of the 20,000 French people there, then meet on Monday the main Lebanese political leaders, including Prime Minister Najib Mikati.
