The Wild Robota science fiction fresco from the animation studio DreamWorks, topped the North American box office this weekend, far ahead Megalopolis by Francis Ford Coppola, according to Sunday estimates from the Exhibitor Relations Office.
In this animated feature film, the robot Roz – whose English voice is played by Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o – finds herself on an inhabited island following a typhoon. To survive, she makes friends with the animals of the forest.
This film with lush landscapes, which favors music over dialogue, earned $35 million in revenue in Canada and the United States for its first weekend in theaters.
“It’s a fable, it’s also an extraordinary story, and we innovated visually, because no film is like it,” said director Chris Sanders during the Toronto International Film Festival in early September.
