The Montreal Alouettes were crowned champions of the Eastern Division of the Canadian Football League on Saturday, thanks to the Ottawa Rouge et Noir’s 29-16 defeat against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The Montreal team, which was to face the Toronto Argonauts in the evening, will play the Eastern final at home on November 9.
With their victory, the Roughriders moved into second place in the West Division, one point ahead of the BC Lions, who lost 32-29 in overtime to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday.
The Rouge et Noir hold a three-point lead over the Argonauts, in second place in the East.
Kicker Brett Lauther shone in the Riders’ victory with seven successful field goals on seven occasions. Thomas Bertrand-Hudon scored a touchdown on the ground.
Rouge et Noir kicker Lewis Ward converted three of his four field goal attempts.
Kalil Pimpleton caught a touchdown pass with less than two minutes left in the game.
Roughriders quarterback Trevor Harris completed 27 of 36 passes for 315 yards.
Rouge et Noir quarterback Jeremiah Masoli completed 20 of his 30 passes for 210 yards and was the victim of three interceptions.
