Continuation of the dialogue, “severe” reprisals… The United States warned Thursday, January 13 that they were “ready for all scenarios” against Russia, after an intense diplomatic ballet which failed to defuse the threat of a new conflict in Ukraine.
After a tense American-Russian meeting on Monday in Geneva, then the NATO-Russia Council two days later in Brussels, where the two rival camps noted their deep “differences” on security in Europe, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) ended this week of talks in Vienna on Thursday by emphasizing “the emergency” of dialogue. But Moscow seems to have dashed those hopes, saying it sees no point in further talks with Westerners “in the next few days”, so great are the disagreements.
According to the head of the Russian diplomacy Sergei Lavrov, they promised written answers next week to the demands of his country. “We will now reflect and consult with our allies and partners on what we are going to do”said US President Joe Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan.
