Since the 2006 war in Lebanon, the former leader of Hezbollah had lived in hiding. Leader of the Shiite militia for 32 years, Hassan Nasrallah had made Israel his worst enemy.

He was the most powerful man in Lebanon. For three decades, Hassan Nasrallah was the face of Hezbollah. Before becoming the leader of the Shiite militia, Nasrallah studied religion in Iraq in the 1980s before joining Hezbollah and taking command in 1992. As a new leader, he imposed a tougher policy towards Israel. In particular, he forced the Hebrew state to withdraw from southern Lebanon at the end of the 1990s. In 2006, following the 33-day war which ravaged the Middle East, Hassan Nasrallah was hailed by the Shiite community for his fight against Israel.

Nasrallah lived in hiding and only appeared through videos on television or posted on social networks. His last appearance was on September 18, the day after the pager attacks in Beirut. The leader of Hezbollah was also a political figure accompanied by ministers and elected officials in Parliament. His allies included the mullahs’ regime in Iran and Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.
