Magdalen Islands | Julie Snyder sells her hotel

Julie Snyder recently put the Hôtel de la Grave located in the Îles-de-la-Madeleine up for sale. The place is already attracting the attention of buyers.

The Hôtel de la Grave, an estate of more than 36,000 square feet which is located on the island of Havre-Aubert and which includes a three-story private hotel and two annexed pavilions, has been put on the market on September 17. “There is already a lot of activity and visits,” specifies broker Georges Bardagi, of Équipe Bardagi RE/MAX, in an interview. Its price is $995,000, plus provincial and federal taxes.

It is not with joy of heart that Julie Snyder is selling this hotel that she bought in 2021 and that she renovated with the greatest care. “It’s a unique and fabulous place in the world, but I don’t have time to be an innkeeper!” she believes. I am busy with my duties as a mother and producer. »

The host loves this hotel where she has spent many vacations with her children. “We rented the hotel as a family when the children were little for six years, and when it came up for sale, I thought it was a great opportunity and bought it! »

If I wasn’t so busy, I would have kept it. You have to be reasonable in life and choose your priorities.

She praises the location bordered by the sea, front and back: “All the rooms have a view of the sea! she marvels. The great pleasure I had was to fetch my salty water directly from the sea with my pan to cook my pasta! Seawater pasta! »

Julie Snyder talks about the historic site of La Grave, one of the most beautiful villages in Quebec, sheltered from the wind, cradle of settlement and the fishing industry in the Îles-de-la-Madeleine. She also talks about her pride in having renovated the historic building called La Saline which is part of the estate for sale. “It’s an area of three buildings. The hotel has six rooms, and one of the pearls of the Hôtel de la Grave is La Saline, a house that is apart. »

The roof was redone with cedar shingles. “Which is rare and ecological,” she says. We put solar panels on the garage to partly supply the building’s electricity. We have an interactive garden that lights up, designed by Félix Marzell. Thanks to Kéroul [un OBNL qui vise à rendre le tourisme et la culture accessibles aux personnes à capacité physique restreinte]we were able to adapt La Saline for people with reduced mobility. All the doors are wider, the floor is heated, everything is ventilated. »

We really put a lot of love and work into beautifying the area.

Moreover, the whole adventure of the renovations of the Hôtel de la Grave was the subject of the second season of the show D-Day on Noovo.

According to Georges Bardagi, the asking price of nearly 1 million reflects the market value. “It’s a favorite place for both Madelinots and tourists, and there is keen interest from many buyers,” he explains. If I wanted to leave Montreal, change my life, get into bed and coffee, this hotel would be a favorite place, but I haven’t gotten there! There are clients in Quebec for whom the timing is good for this project. »

A little secret that Julie confides before continuing the meetings: “There is still time to rent the Hôtel de la Grave! Think about fall in the Magdalen Islands! Go for it, you won’t regret, and it’s the low season rental price! »
