Maugein, the last manufacturer of accordions in France, was placed in liquidation by the commercial court of Brive (Corrèze) on Friday September 27, France Bleu Limousin learned. The company which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2019 was in default of payments. The covid crisis has put it in financial difficulty, as has the shrinking accordion market, today dominated by China, which Maugein has not managed to conquer.

Maugein will have to separate from its ten employees who will be dismissed in the coming days by the appointed liquidator. It is up to him to study the possibilities of a recovery. The factory had a week to produce the last instruments ordered. Without a buyer for its factory in Tulle (Corrèze), the last accordion entirely made in France will be delivered on Monday September 30.
