In the middle of a government seminar, Prime Minister Michel Barnier completes his team. Two new delegate ministers have been designated, announced a press release from the Elysée on Friday September 27. Horizons MP Charlotte Parmentier-Lecocq will be responsible for people with disabilities. The deputy LR Jean-Louis Thiériot is appointed Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs. There are now 41 of them who make up the government.
Many associations deplored the absence of a ministry dedicated to disability when the composition of the government was announced on Saturday. The Minister of Solidarity and Autonomy, Paul Christophe, assured that he would take charge of the matter, and that he had “always been keen to defend the fundamental rights of people with disabilities”.
But the controversy had not died down, and this choice was even criticized internally. “It’s a rookie mistake seen as an insult. I hope they will correct the situation”whispered a right-wing parliamentarian on Wednesday. The same day, the press echoed this upcoming appointment, with that of a Minister Delegate for the Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs.
Charlotte Parmentier-Lecocq will be placed under the authority of Paul Christophe. Former president of the social affairs committee at the Assembly, she is the third representative of the government of Horizons, the party of Edouard Philippe, which she had joined two weeks earlier from Renaissance.
Jean-Louis Thiériot is appointed to Sébastien Lecornu. In charge of “veterans and memory”he will also be entrusted “missions in international fields, the territorial influence of the ministry and the ecological transition”indicated the Ministry of the Armed Forces to AFP. This former lawyer was vice-president of the National Defense and Armed Forces Committee in the Assembly.
