OL now know what the start of their European season will consist of. The draw for the group stage of the Champions League revealed, Friday September 27, the composition of the four groups and the first opponents of Fenottes, eight-time winners of the competition, which will begin on October 8.
Joe Montemurro’s players, directly qualified as reigning French champions, will face VfL Wolfsburg in Group A, another former winner (2013, 2014), who returns to the European elite after being eliminated in the play-offs last season by Paris FC. The two teams have not faced each other since the final of the 2020 edition, which went in favor of the Lyonnaises (3-1). They will also be opposed to AS Roma, quarter-finalist last year, and the Turks of Galatasaray, who will play the first Champions League campaign in their history after coming out of qualifying.
The rest of the draw produced a tough Group C with Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Juventus, who fell to Paris Saint-Germain in the play-offs. Manchester City, which eliminated the PFC, inherits the double defending champion, Barcelona, in Group D.
