Taha O., suspected of killing Philippine, was arrested in Geneva. The suspect, already known to the courts, had been sentenced to seven years in prison for a rape committed in 2019, and was subject to an obligation to leave French territory.
In front of Paris Dauphine University, emotion gives way to anger. “We have a justice system that unfortunately does its job badly. The potential criminal was under OQTF. He had to leave our territory while he was walking around Paris in the 16th arrondissement.”laments a student. “It is not normal to leave a man in the wild who should have been under house arrest”adds a student. The question is also raised by the Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, who calls for changes to the legal arsenal.
Taha O., Philippine’s alleged murderer, was due to be deported. First arrested in 2019 for rape, he was sentenced to seven years in prison. He was placed under OQTF (obligation to leave French territory) at the end of his sentence.
Upon his release from prison in 2024, he was placed in an administrative detention center. While awaiting his deportation, without identity documents, the French authorities contacted the Moroccan authorities several times, without response. The prefect then requested a fourth extension within the maximum period of 90 days. The court refused, and decided to release him.
