At just 18 years old, Olivia Rodrigo is leading the race at the 2021 American Music Awards (AMAs), which unveiled her list of nominations on Thursday. With seven selections, including “Artist of the Year”, the new pop sensation arrives ahead of The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Doja Cat and Giveon.
The singer-songwriter of Driver’s License, that we didn’t know just a year ago, is also nominated in the categories “Best Music Video”, “Best Female Pop Artist”, “Best Pop Album” and “Best Pop Song”.
Canadian singer The Weeknd follows closely behind with six caps, including “Artist of the Year” and “Best Male R & B Artist,” while Bad Bunny, Doja Cat and Giveon will claim five statuettes each.
Finally, Taylor Swift, the most awarded artist in AMA history, can add three selections to her collection.
This year, three new categories have been added to the evening’s program, “Favorite trendy song”, in which the viral hits of the TikTok application, “Best gospel artist” and “Best Latin group or duo” will compete.
The AMAs, which recognize the best popular American and international music, will take place on November 21.
