On the set of France 2’s “20 Heures”, journalist Margaux Subra-Gomez returned, Tuesday, September 24, to this system which covers the health costs of foreigners in an irregular situation.
Bruno Retailleau, the new Minister of the Interior, wants to tackle state medical aid (AME). “AME covers the health costs of foreigners in an irregular situation. There are two conditions to be able to benefit from it: first, you must be present on French soil for at least three months, and earn less than 850 euros per month.”explains journalist Margaux Subra-Gomez on the set of “20 Heures”, Tuesday, September 24.
“In 2023, there were 439,000 AME beneficiaries. This figure has increased by 39% since 2015. This also corresponds to an increase in the number of foreigners in an irregular situation on French soil during the same period.”continues the journalist. Should we conclude that the AME constitutes a call for foreigners? Margaux Subra-Gomez indicates that in 2023, “two rapporteurs have studied the subject of AME, and according to them, there is no incentive effect of this aid on immigration”.
