In France, the amount of damages related to natural disasters has doubled in 15 years. Insurers are therefore preparing to increase their home insurance rates from 2025 by 10% to 12% on average.
In Le Cannet (Alpes-Maritimes), on the morning of Tuesday, September 24, Eric Catenese, an insurer at Axa France, visited the damaged homes and businesses. In a printing press, the water rose to 20 centimeters, damaging production for several thousand euros of damage. The emergency for the insurer is “to immediately make an inventory of the losses, to quantify them if possible, in order to save time in the assessment and in the compensation” victims of the previous day’s flooding in the Alpes-Maritimes.
With increasingly frequent intense climatic episodes, the amount of damages linked to natural disasters is increasing in France. It has doubled in 15 years. Insurers are therefore preparing to increase their home insurance rates again from 2025, by 10% to 12% on average, with even greater increases in certain regions.
Car insurance is also affected. It is expected to increase by 4% to 6% on average, also mainly for climatic reasons. Increases in insurance premiums well above inflation, which has just fallen below the 2% mark.
