(France 2)

Directed by Patricia Tourancheau and Elie Wajeman, the documentary series “Insoupçonnable, l’affaire du Grêlé” looks back at one of the most famous criminal cases, whose perpetrator committed suicide just as he was about to be caught. It will be broadcast on the evening of Tuesday, September 24 on France 2.

The documentary series The Pockmarked Man affair, beyond suspiciondirected by Patricia Tourancheau and Elie Wajeman, follows a psychiatrist inside the mind of a serial killer and rapist. It resumes the investigation of a murderer who has eluded detection for decades, a modern-day version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The police officers of the criminal brigade nicknamed him “the Pockmarked One”, because of the acne scars on his face.

“Le Grêlé” was indeed above suspicion: this father and grandfather was in turn a gendarme, a policeman and a municipal councillor. Wanted, he even took part in a TV game show. François Vérove, 59, was about to be unmasked when he committed suicide, leaving behind a letter and many questions that this documentary seeks to resolve. He committed crimes all over Paris since the mid-1980s. Three years ago, the DNA of the 750 gendarmes stationed in Paris at the time of the crimes was compared to the genetic profile of the killer. Caught in the net of justice, François Vérove then chose to end it all.
