Olivier Salleron, president of the FFB, welcomed the appointment of Valérie Létard to the government in a ministry entirely dedicated to Housing and Urban Renewal.
In previous governments, the Minister responsible for Housing reported to the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion. From now on, thee Michel Barnier’s government includes a ministry entirely dedicated to Housing and Urban Renewal, with the appointment of Valérie Létard to this post. “Since the beginning of the year, we have had a crisis in real estate, housing and new construction. We have lost more than 30,000 employees. We are satisfied because, for the first time in seven years, we have a fully functioning ministry.”says Olivier Salleron, president of the French Building Federation.
“Interest rates are falling slightly, but there has been such an escalation of costs and additional costs that new construction has sunk. (…) That’s when we cut the zero-rate loan for very low-income families to buy a home, for example a detached house, just like that, overnight. It was a total mistake. Sales have fallen by 70% at the developer level. Behind that, construction companies have gone bankrupt, there may be 12,000 bankruptcies this year, we haven’t done the final count yet but it’s terrible.”he adds.
