Hotel negotiations: a first agreement in principle is concluded

A first agreement in principle concerning the renewal of the collective agreement was reached at the Hilton Hotel in Laval, as part of the coordinated negotiations led by the Fédération du commerce.

The federation, affiliated with the Confederation of National Trade Unions, confirmed the agreement in principle, but its content has not yet been revealed.

A meeting of union members at the Hilton Hotel in Laval is scheduled for later Monday; they will then learn about the contents of the agreement in principle and will be able to vote on it.

Among the main points of contention were wages, group insurance, vacations and training. Union members were demanding a 36% increase over four years, including 15% in the first year. They felt they had made sacrifices during the COVID-19 pandemic to enable hoteliers to weather the crisis.

Through this coordinated negotiation, the union federation was seeking to reach a settlement with a first hotelier, in order to then try to export it to others, even if they are different employers. The unions concerned in the federation – a potential of 30 – are therefore consulting each other regarding their negotiation.

This coordinated negotiation has been going on for several months now and the first settlement has been slow to materialise.
