Rayne Beau, the cat who traveled 1,300 kilometers to find her home

Lost in Yellowstone Park in the United States, after a vacation with his owners, the stubborn cat found his way home alone and without GPS.

Rayne Beau, pronounced “Rainbow”, like the rainbow in English, is a young Siamese cat of two and a half years. Last June, his owners, Benny and Susan, a couple from San Francisco, decided to take him with them on a trip to Yellowstone National Park. But, once there, perhaps because he was afraid of this unfamiliar environment, perhaps because he was thirsty for freedom, he ran away and disappeared into the vegetation.

For Benny and Susan, it’s a disaster. The couple spends the rest of their vacation looking for him everywhere, roaming the forest, leaving his treats and favorite toys in the park. But nothing works. Benny and Susan end up losing hope and return home at the end of the vacation with their hearts in pieces, convinced that they have abandoned him to the packs of coyotes and to a sad fate.

Except that Rayne Beau hasn’t given up. Don’t trust his discreet meow. Even in the middle of the forest, even completely lost, the cat never gives up. So he sets off for home, without GPS. Or rather with his own GPS: his extraordinary spatio-temporal memory, his sense of smell 70 times more developed than ours and his hearing three times more powerful. So here he is on his way to California, about 1,300 kilometers away.

Arriving in California, he is found in a pitiful state by a woman who takes him to a shelter. Thanks to his chip, the shelter immediately notifies his owners, whose surprise I let you imagine. Benny and Susan who still have trouble understanding how Rayne Beau was able to find her way and travel such a distance in only two months. So obviously, he does not come out of this adventure without after-effects. He has lost a lot of weight and it will take him time to recover, but he will be able to count on the affection and caresses of Benny and Susan.
