Appointed Minister of Sports, Youth and Community Life on Saturday, Gil Avérous discussed the various areas of his action during the handover of power with Amélie Oudéa-Castéra on Monday.

“Making sport, youth and community life the pillars of the France of tomorrow, a more inclusive, more united and stronger France.” These are the words with which Gil Avérous, the new Minister of Sports, Youth and Community Life, concluded his speech during the handover of power with Amélie Oudéa-Castéra and Sarah El Hairy on Monday, September 23 at the ministry’s headquarters in Paris.
During this ceremony, the former minister spoke about “these two and a half intense but terribly exciting years”listing in passing the good and bad memories. Gil Avérous, mayor of Châteauroux, followed in the footsteps of his predecessor: “You have been able to carry with determination the values of this ministry. I commit to continuing this dynamic with the same fervor as you, with the ambition of trying to bring you together.”he said.
Evoking several times his ambition of a “decentralized sport” so that it is “an opportunity accessible to all throughout the territory”he claimed that “High performance must be a driving force”. “Our athletes have shown that France is full of talent” during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, specifying that disabled sport had “definitely won the hearts of the French”.
He also announced that he wanted to put “take action to protect our athletes, our young people, our volunteers against all forms of violence”. “Every sports club must be a safe place where religious proselytism has no place”he added, referring to the principle of secularism affirmed “wherever it is necessary.” As for mental health, declared a “major national cause in 2025” by the Prime Minister, Gil Avérous assures that this “This will be one of our major projects” towards young people.
