After two weeks of intense negotiations, Michel Barnier’s government team was unveiled on Saturday, September 21. The new government brings together different sensibilities from the center and the right.

Michel Barnier’s government team was finally announced on Saturday, September 21, after more than two weeks of difficult negotiations. The list of 39 ministers, deputy ministers and secretaries of state has caused reactions, with some regretting the lack of familiar faces. “In a coalition period, I don’t know if it’s a disadvantage because the heavyweights tend to pull the rope towards themselves. For example, Antoine Armand (Minister of Economy) whom I know very well, is not known to the general public. But having worked with him for a long time in the National Assembly, he is a boy who is full of talent and who has a lot of knowledge”assures Bruno Millienne, spokesperson for the MoDem.

Led by Michel Barnier, the new government brings together various personalities including Bruno Retailleau, president of the LR group in the Senate since 2014 and now Minister of the Interior. “TAll the heavyweights have started at one time or another. There was talk of a total renewal of heads in the government. This is not the case. There are some heavyweights and many former ministers. This renewal has not been enormous”believes the MoDem spokesperson.
