(Val-d’Or) A cyclist is in critical condition after being hit by a van on Saturday afternoon in Val-d’Or, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
The tragedy was reported to emergency services at around 2:30 p.m.
The accident occurred on Route 117, between Malartic and Val-d’Or. The 32-year-old driver apparently veered out of his lane for an unknown reason before colliding with the cyclist. Both were heading south.
The cyclist is a man in his fifties.
Route 117 was completely closed for one hour.
Reconstructionists and investigators from the Sûreté du Québec were sent to the scene to establish the causes and circumstances of the collision.
